KOL (Key Opinion Leader)
An influential physician or researcher whose clinical opinion carries weight with other prescribers.
A physician, researcher, or other clinical expert whose opinion carries real weight with peers, often because of published research, speaking engagements, or a leadership role in their specialty. Pharma brands frequently engage KOLs for advisory boards, speaker programs, and peer-to-peer education, activities that carry their own disclosure and compliance requirements distinct from standard promotional content, since a KOL speaking on a brand's behalf is understood differently by an audience than an ad is.
